Greetings. I am a black woman who is currently in NYS. Despite having a credit score of 773, I have encountered difficulties in finding an apartment because my name has never been on a lease. I have been living in my car due to domestic violence, which has impacted me greatly. I have not received the support I needed from the safe dwellings, and my experiences with both were unjust, which led me to file complaints since I cannot afford a lawyer. I feel anxious about entering another safe dwelling shelter which is why I remained in my car. Unfortunately, I do not have a solid support system, which is partly why this situation has affected me so significantly. What I have noticed about certain safe dwellings and other organizations is that they tend to help only specific people, even though their mission does not indicate that. There is a lot of corruption happening in many of those places, and because I have proof of their wrongdoings, they have done everything they can to prevent me from getting help. I have been traveling around this state trying to find what I need. Thankfully, I have finally found a job and will be starting soon. I have a safety-sensitive position and would like the opportunity to keep it. I have been unable to access the help I require, and I am hoping to find a landlord willing to take a chance on me, or someone who might know a landlord who would, or who could provide resources to assist me or advice would be appreciated.
